StereoPhoto Maker on Mac: The Official Wine Bundle, Honestly Explained

There is no native Mac version of StereoPhoto Maker, and this page will not pretend otherwise. What the author provides is an official macOS package that wraps the Windows build in Wine. Used with the right expectations, it is a genuinely workable way to run SPM on a Mac. Here is exactly what it is, what it does, and where its limits are.

What the package is

  • A Wine-wrapped bundle of SPM at a v6.20 core — powerful, but several versions behind the current Windows v6.41.
  • About 252 MB to download, expanding to more than 1 GB on disk.
  • Confirmed by the author on Intel and Apple Silicon (M1) Macs, running macOS High Sierra through Monterey.
  • Not officially confirmed on macOS versions newer than Monterey, nor on M2/M3 machines — it may run, but nobody authoritative has promised it.

Getting it running

Download the bundle from the author’s Mac page (linked from our download page), unzip it, and if Gatekeeper refuses to open it, apply the author’s own terminal fix — walked through in the Gatekeeper guide.

Known limitations

  • The built-in browser feature does not work in the bundle (author-stated).
  • Features added after v6.20 — including spphotolib HEIC reading (v6.40+) and depth-map extraction (v6.41) — are Windows-build features; the Mac bundle’s core predates them.
  • An early release of the bundle was once flagged by Avast; the author removed modules and states it now checks clean. Verify large downloads by their source — the official page — as always.

Honest alternatives for Mac-first users

If your stereo work is occasional, the bundle is fine. If you live on a current Mac and need the newest SPM features, the realistic routes are a Windows machine, a Windows VM, or doing the heavy work on Windows and viewing on the Mac. What we do not recommend: unofficial “SPM for Mac” downloads from third-party portals — they are not the author’s package, whatever their pages claim.
