Nintendo 3DS MPO Files in StereoPhoto Maker
The Nintendo 3DS was, for a generation of users, their first stereo camera — and it wrote everything as MPO files. Those files are fully readable today: StereoPhoto Maker opens 3DS MPOs natively and treats them like any other stereo pair.
Get the files off the console
3DS photos live on the SD card in the camera roll folders as .MPO files. Copy them to your PC (keep the originals untouched — archive routine), then open them in SPM.
What to do with them in SPM
- Align — the 3DS’s small fixed lenses produce decent pairs, but handheld tilt is common; auto alignment tidies it.
- Convert — save side-by-side JPEGs for screens and sharing (MPO to SBS guide), or anaglyphs for anyone with glasses.
- Batch the whole card — Multi Conversion turns years of 3DS shots into a standard library in one run.
Going back to the 3DS
The 3DS displays MPO files, and SPM writes MPO — so edited pairs can return to the console for viewing in its 3D photo app. Keep the file naming and folder layout the console expects, and test one file before converting hundreds.
3DS photos are small by modern standards. SPM will not add resolution; what it adds is geometry — alignment, window and format freedom. Modest files, properly aligned, still read beautifully in 3D.
