Fujifilm FinePix REAL 3D W3 Workflow in StereoPhoto Maker
The Fujifilm FinePix REAL 3D W3 remains the easiest way to shoot real stereo: two lenses, one shutter, and an MPO file for every shot. StereoPhoto Maker was practically built around this camera’s output. This workflow takes a W3 card from import to finished, viewable images.
1. Copy the MPOs, keep the originals
Copy the card’s MPO files to your archive folder first and treat them as negatives — never edit the only copy. SPM works on copies; the backup guide shows a simple routine.
2. Triage in SPM
Open each MPO and discard the failures honestly: blinked portraits, moved subjects, and the shots where the W3’s modest lenses fought the light. The W3’s flash and low-light limits mean some frames are beyond rescue, and SPM cannot add detail that was never captured.
3. Align and set the window
W3 pairs usually need small corrections. Run auto alignment, then set the stereo window so the main subject sits at or behind it. For a whole card of keepers, use Multi Conversion with alignment, or StereoAutoAlign on the folder first.
4. Export for your screens
- Side-by-side JPEG — the master and the most portable format.
- MPO — for the W3’s own screen, 3D TVs and the 3DS family.
- Anaglyph — for sharing with anyone who has red-cyan glasses.
- Device-specific outputs — Lume Pad and similar glasses-free tablets take SPM output directly; see the device guide.
Getting more from the W3 today
The W3 is long discontinued, so good used examples trade through camera marketplaces. If you are shopping, check the usual second-hand cautions: the camera is a 2010 design, and its value is the true twin-lens stereo, not its (now dated) 2D specs.
Shooting stereo today without a W3? The QooCam EGO is a current snapshot stereo camera whose output SPM handles the same way.
