Convert MPO to Side-by-Side in StereoPhoto Maker

MPO (Multi Picture Object) is the container stereo cameras write: one file holding the left and right JPEGs. Fujifilm’s W3 and the Nintendo 3DS made it the most common stereo format in the wild. Many displays and editors, however, want a plain side-by-side (SBS) image. StereoPhoto Maker converts between them in both directions — one file at a time, or a whole folder at once.

Convert a single MPO file

  1. Open the MPO in SPM; it loads as a stereo pair automatically.
  2. Run auto alignment if the pair needs it — camera MPOs often benefit.
  3. Switch the display mode to side-by-side.
  4. Save with File > Save Stereo Image as JPEG (or PNG/TIFF). The result is a standard SBS image.

Convert a folder with Multi Conversion

File > Multi Conversion applies the same conversion to every file in a folder: choose MPO as the input type, side-by-side JPEG as output, and let it run. This is the practical route for a whole W3 memory card — see the Multi Conversion guide for the settings that matter, including what happens to EXIF data.

Going the other way: SBS to MPO

MPO is not a one-way street. SPM reads and writes MPO, JPS and PNS containers, so a side-by-side master can be saved back as MPO for devices that prefer it — the Nintendo 3DS being the classic case (3DS MPO guide).

Keep the original MPO files. They are the camera originals; an SBS JPEG saved at lower quality is a derivative. A simple archive routine is in Back up your MPO library.
